Wow… one in every six Irish people have never used the internet

New European Commission figures show that 16 per cent or just over one in six of people in Ireland have never used the internet, while 65 per cent of the nation uses the web daily.

The figures have altered greatly in the past eight years with an identical survey done in 2006 showing that 42 per cent had then never used the internet and only a quarter of the population were using it daily.

During the same period, the percentage of individuals in the EU28 that have never used the internet dropped from 43 per cent in 2006 to 18 per cent in 2014.

Almost two-thirds of people in the EU (65 per cent) aged 16 to 74 are using the internet daily, compared with less than a third (31 per cent) in 2006.

Figures in the UK show that only six per cent of people have never used the internet, dropping from 29 per cent in 2006. The amount of people using the internet daily has soared to 81 per cent compared to 39 per cent eight years ago.
