On the Pat Kenny Show on Denis O’Brien owned Newstalk radio, Olivia Mitchell, TD described anti-water metering protesters as “TERRORISTS”. Even Pat Kenny was a bit taken aback by this latest description that comes hot on the heels of “sinister fringe” and “ISIS”. Well, we must be doing something right if government spokespeople have to resort to such pathetic name calling! In the same programme the other old tired cliche was rolled out … “water meter installers are being assaulted”, strangely enough she forgot to add the next line from the Irish Water PR bible ” and being spat on”. Not to be outdone, another guest on Kenny’s show, Michael Kelly suggested that anti-water charge protesters were people with an “ANARCHY FANTASY”.

Olivia calls the people she supposedly serves terrorists while fleecing and terrorizing the public purse. Since being elected in 2011 Olivia has cost the exchequer  € 404,106.30 in expenses and wages. while pushing austerity on her constituents. Olivia does NOT represent us.

Pat Kenny is a skilled and vastly experienced broadcaster but unfortunately since his move to much-more-moolah Denis O’Brien radioland his credibility is diminishing as his bank balance increases. Having to “invite” guests like today’s – Mitchell, Kelly and Jillian Van Turnhout that sing from the correct hymn sheet – the Dinny O’Brien one, is compromising his integrity.

Still, I listen to Pat as a form of therapy! When I hear my fellow protesters being described as “terrorists” I shout at the radio and wave my fists, which can be very therapeutic.
