By Collective Ireland
When the Labour Party has the cheek to canvass the vote of the working class, will you support them, or will you remember their betrayal of the labour movement? Will you remember that, at all times propped up by a percentage of the dues stolen from the pockets of workers by ineffective, stagnating union hierarchies, the Labour Party accepted the offer of a junior partnership in government from Fine Gael, then stood back while the state raped and pillaged the nation at the behest of external greed? Will you remember that the Labour Party has long since denied the labour movement in Ireland any form of political representation, while their colleagues in the upper echelons of the unions grew fat on salaries to match those of the traitors in Leinster House?
Fianna Fail and Fine Gael have between them ensured that the gap between those that have and those that have not will only ever widen in the Ireland they’ve conspired to destroy. Fianna Fail and Fine Gael will never represent the average citizen. You know this because government after government tainted by their leadership have displayed nothing but contempt for all those who now suffer and struggle to exist under the burden of enforced austerity. Fianna Fail and Fine Gael will never represent the average citizen. You know this because while you marched in your tens of thousands your government mimicked its predecessors in its disdain for your concern and vocal disgust at the continued mismanagement of the state. Fianna Fail and Fine Gael will never represent the average citizen. You know this because behind the spin, behind the deception and through every action they take in your name they highlight first their detachment from the general public, and then their vulgar and absolute elitism.
While the Labour Party has pretended to represent working class Ireland, Fine Gael and Fianna Fail are indistinguishable from each other as the parties that have caused more suffering, more suicides, more repossessions and evictions, more homelessness, more mental health problems, more division and more poverty than any other political grouping in the history of our land. Between them, Fianna Fail, Fine Gael and the Labour Party are responsible for the destruction and prostitution of our sovereignty, the collapse of any semblance of social justice and a prioritising of the affairs of a wealthy few over the health and well-being of this country and its citizens.
We are being lied to and stolen from by a system that has both failed us miserably and cost us dearly.
It’s always been about them and us. As we continue to evolve as a movement for change, they seek only the self preservation that the status quo provides. Through their spin and deception and scaremongering, through their attempts at provocation and intimidation they have shown us only that they are afraid. They should be.
We have already won the moral high ground, and mass nonpayment will see us win this fight.
Their behaviours have become more blatant, more oppressive, more unjust and more self-serving.
It is surely time for us to become less compliant, less respectful, less considerate, and ultimately less timid in our response.
Unless communication improves at community level there will be more party leaders on the next platform; until there is real organisation at a community level and collective intent at a national level from within the movement, there will be more electioneers and opportunists pushing their way to the foreground at every protest. Do not wait to be sold or told an opinion from a stage, form your own. We must start thinking of ourselves in political terms, and start interacting with the state as political entities.
