I attended the EVICTION Court in Tullamore today and was accompanied by Deirdre, Paula and Pj. What I witnessed in the court and before a Judge was to me unbelievable. If I had been told about it rather than witnessing it, I wouldn’t have believed any of it. This Judge is not for listening to the genuine arguments of Lay Litigants. This Judge would appear to be one of the best friends of the bailed out banks and vulture funds, preferring to rely on the word of the bankers legal eagles rather than believing the humble peasants who are made to feel like criminals about to be sentenced for some awful crime…

When the first case was called it was obvious that the bankers victim was not going to be listened to. Out of pure frustration he raised his voice asking to be heard… The Judge left her seat, had her clerk call the Garda Station and waited for two Gardai to appear in the court before resuming her seat. It was then made very obvious to everyone present who was in charge…

Next case: The bankers victims were told that their expert witness to fraudulent bank documents wasn’t qualified enough – peasants were told at 12 mid-day that their future would be decided at 2pm once she perused the case over luncheon…

Next case: Same as above, the difference being that this man was totally on his own… “Come back at 2pm for my decision”.

Outside the courtroom the only thing that any of us could do was to reassure all of them that if the worst came to the worst, all was not lost as an appeal could be lodged. I went to a local café with the man and wife for coffee as I knew that neither was in a good place while awaiting their fate to be delivered at 2pm.

On arriving back to the courthouse at 1.45pm I met the other man. It was fairly obvious that he had been crying. He just said, “Ken, I can’t take any more”… We then went into the courtroom when the doors were opened shortly after 2pm. At 2.17pm the Judge made her appearance and after some legalese waffling by barristers for the bailed out bankers, the verdict was delivered on the first couple… EVICTION ORDER GRANTED with a stay of 4 months to allow them time to start their lives again at almost 60 years of age…

Second case, EVICTION ORDER GRANTED with a stay of 8 months to allow the man to find somewhere for his teenage son and himself to live…

On leaving the courthouse with these three very decent people, the lady in the first case said, “I may as well go and kill myself now”. It took at least half an hour talking to her to get her to understand that all is not lost yet. I just hope that she took it in… When he was leaving, the man in the second case was obviously distraught. He was smiling as he left, but it wasn’t hard to see that he was in great distress…

TODAY was one awful bloody day. Tonight’s food run in Offaly will begin a 9pm… As for our politicians who allow our people to be intimidated like this and treated with utter contempt
